Hojlund Breaks Manchester United Goal Drought but Admits to Ongoing Struggles

Rasmus Hojlung acknowledged that he hasn't been performing at his best level following the end of his three-month scoring slump in Manchester United's 3-0 victory against Leicester City.

Since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in August 2023 for a fee of £72 million ($93 million), this young player, now 22 years old, has experienced several disappointing stretches that have led many to question the hefty price tag attached to his transfer.

The Danish national team player broke his 21-game scoring slump by giving Ruben Amorim's squad an early lead en route to securing a 3-0 victory at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

In the 28th minute, Hojlund netted a goal with a precise right-footed shot across Leicester's goalkeeper Mads Hermansen after receiving a pass from Bruno Fernandes.

Alejandro Garnacho broke his personal scoring drought, followed by Fernandes adding another goal as United continued their undefeated streak in the Premier League to four matches.

Hojlund mentioned that he felt relief at returning to the scoresheet for the first time since mid-December, adding that his problems extended beyond merely scoring goals.

“I’m clearly delighted to achieve my objective, and this boosts my self-assurance significantly,” he stated.

In my opinion, it also depends on my performance. Clearly, I haven’t been able to reach the level I desired, and we’re still adjusting to a new system along with some new roles.

I believe I've been adapting to it recently and am beginning to appear more appealing.

Hojlund experiences an increasing bond with his fellow players as Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November, aims to establish his presence.

"(Amorim) wants me to expand the playing area, I believe that’s pretty clear, and to move into the wide areas while keeping the center backs busy," he stated.

What I aim to achieve is this. I believe I have gathered sufficient velocity, which is precisely my objective here.

The win against relegation-threatened Leicester had minimal impact on Manchester United's underwhelming Premier League campaign, moving them up just two spots from 15th to 13th place in the standings.

However, this extends their undefeated streak in the league and keeps up their momentum following Thursday's 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad, which propelled them into the Europa League quarter-finals.
