India Leads Quad Initiative: Enhancing Pandemic Preparedness in the Indo-Pacific

New Delhi [India], March 17 (ANI): Under India’s leadership of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad), the country is organizing the "Quad Workshop on Epidemic Readiness in the Indo-Pacific Area." The event will take place from March 17-19, 2025.

This workshop is a significant result of the 6th Quad Leaders' Summit conducted in September 2024. Its main objective is to enhance regional health security by fostering cooperation in areas such as governance, monitoring, and crisis management systems.

High-ranking health authorities, specialist professionals, and policy makers from the Quad countries—India, the U.S., Japan, and Australia—are taking part in this gathering. Additionally, more than two dozen representatives from fifteen Asia-Pacific nations such as Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Kenya, Kiribati, Madagascar, Maldives, Mozambique, Palau, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Tonga, and Tuvalu have joined in. Attendees also include individuals representing various global healthcare organizations.

Emphasizing the importance of this effort, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X: “Quad—Remaining a positive influence in the area. In March 2025, from the 17th to the 19th, India will be organizing the Quad Workshop on Pandemic Preparedness. This workshop will convene representatives from Quad members including Australia, Japan, and the U.S., along with participants from 15 nations across the Indo-Pacific. Together, they aim to bolster pandemic response strategies, improve resilience, and adopt the One Health framework to ensure a more secure and healthy Indo-Pacific.”
