The Jeep Avenger The American automaker's compact vehicle is now being equipped with a feature it should have originally included: all-wheel drive. Indeed, you heard correctly. Jeep , renowned globally for its off-road capable vehicles, has been offering a front-wheel-drive crossover in European markets for approximately two years now.
That’s finally shifting. Although the revised edition has been announced. last year , the ordered books are finally becoming available. Shipments to Europe are set to start in May. Apologies, Americans: it won’t be arriving in the United States.
The Avenger 4xe boasts an intriguing power system. The primary energy provider is a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine capable of delivering 136 horsepower, which powers the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The combined system output is measured at 145 horsepower, capable of accelerating the B-segment crossover from rest to 62 miles per hour in 9.5 seconds with a maximum velocity of 120 miles per hour. This represents an increase of 6 mph (10 kph) over the front-wheel-drive e-Hybrid variant of the Avenger.
Despite all these points, Jeep has designed this e-AWD system primarily for low-speed operation. Initially, no more than 28 horsepower is allocated to the rear wheels at once, with the company noting that the rear electric motor disconnects itself beyond 56 mph (90 km/h). Within the range of 18 to 56 mph, the rear motor activates as necessary, whereas under 18 mph, it remains active continuously, ensuring an equal distribution of torque between both axles.
Keep in mind, this is not a plug-in hybrid like the Wrangler 4xe However, it is more like a gentle hybrid featuring 48-volt components. Consequently, Jeep states that the Avenger 4xe might operate solely on electricity at speeds of up to 18 mph for distances covering about one kilometer or half a mile.
The American car company states that this small off-road vehicle boasts about an additional one-quarter inch (10 millimeters) of ground clearance compared to the standard model and has the capability to wade through water up to a depth of 15.7 inches (400 mm). Additionally, the 4xe variant features scratch-resistant bumpers, roof racks, all-weather Goodyear tires, underside shielding, and a trailer hitch at the back. On the interior, you'll find a black ceiling liner along with seat covers designed to be waterproof.
