Bognaayili (N/R), March 17, GNA – Children participating in the Child-Friendly Accountability Mechanism (CFAM) initiative in the Sagnarigu and Kumbungu Districts have urged parents to prioritize their children’s education by supplying necessary school materials.
They demanded an end to various forms of mistreatment towards children including child marriages, child labor, and negligence, stating that these abuses impacted their health and growth.
The statement was delivered on behalf of the CFAM members by Miss Ilham Maltiti Abdul-Aziz, a student, during the CFAM District Level Forum held at Bognaayili in the Kumbungu District within the Northern Region through a communique she read out loud.
The statement emphasized providing equal chances for every child across all stages to reach their full potential.
The forum, which included participants such as students, parents, and delegates from various government bodies like the Ghana Education Service along with traditional leaders, aimed to empower children to recognize child protection issues within their localities and promote methods for tackling these challenges.
The event was organized by the Markaz-Al-Bishara Child Development Programme (MABCDP), with assistance provided by Children Believe, an international non-governmental organization.
The topic revolved around "Combating the Issue of Students Dropping Out of School: The Responsibility of Parents, Caregivers, and Stakeholders in the Sagnarigu Municipality and Kumbungu District."
During the forum, the children performed a play highlighting the obstacles they encountered in accessing education within their community. This performance underscored issues such as parents being unable to meet their educational requirements, causing some kids to leave school prematurely and leading others to engage in problematic behaviors within society.
The statement read, "We commit to acting as accountable members of the younger generation and urge all stakeholders and those with responsibilities to also vow to deliver educational resources, healthcare, housing, legal support, and social services that will act as vehicles enabling us to reach our fullest potential in the future."
Madam Esenam Kavi De Souza, the Country Director for Children Believe, had her remarks delivered by another person on her behalf. She stated that the organization aims to enhance the well-being and growth of children by providing platforms where they can showcase their talents and abilities.
She condemned every type of mistreatment, disregard, and bias towards children regardless of their social status, emphasizing the urgent call for parents and involved parties to fulfill their vital duty of enabling children’s development through essential backing and direction.
Mr. Sulemana Yahaya, the District Director of Education from Kumbungu, had his speech presented by someone else at the forum. He recognized the concerns brought up by the children and stressed the importance of all parties involved addressing the educational requirements of these kids.
