Ramadan Feast: Awoniyi Supports Nottingham's Muslim Community Iftar
Super Eagles And Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi organized a Ramadan iftar in Nottingham earlier this week as an expression of his commitment to charitable acts and community involvement. PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Iftar event was organized by the Nottingham Forest Community Trust, working together with the local charity Himmah at Himmah’s Hub located in Hyson Green.
Awoniyi’s team, Nottingham Forest, estimated the player's impact and noted that the gathering attracted 70 community members, bringing together those fasting during Ramadan with others for an evening marked by unity and camaraderie.
The forward was present at the gathering as well, interacting with local inhabitants and enjoying a meal alongside people from Nottingham, which included individuals hailing from his homeland, Nigeria.
"I'm simply spreading love within the community, aiming to share affection. This month holds great significance for my Muslim brethren, as well as being an essential time during Lent for Christians," stated Awoniyi.
And it serves as a means to contribute to the community and unite people through love. Whether it's your time or your resources, it makes no difference.
“It’s just a way that everyone can be powerful to each other and growing up that has been my goal. That’s always been me to try and assist in my own little way.
“I also make an effort to nurture the next generation of children, as this is something close to my heart and extremely important to me.”
Uzair Hasmi, representing Himmah, conveyed his appreciation for Awoniyi's kindness.
"Himmah is a social justice organization that focuses on addressing poverty, racism, and educational disparities in Nottingham," according to Hasmi.
This is the one evening each week when we have difficulty securing sponsorship for our warm meals. We greatly appreciate Himmah's gratitude towards Taiwo for their support and kindness in funding a community gathering. Thanks again, Taiwo.
The commitment of this individual to community support reaches even further than Nottingham. In his home country of Nigeria, he manages the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation, an organization aimed at fostering youth empowerment via educational opportunities and football initiatives.
He has likewise been involved in numerous construction initiatives for social and educational purposes in Ilorin, located in Kwara State.
