Axim (West Region), April 27, GNA - The Lower Axim Traditional Council has presented 20 mattresses to the Axim Government Hospital.
Chief Awulae Attibrukusu III, the head of the traditional council, stated that because of the constant flow of patients arriving at the hospital each day, it has become challenging for newly admitted individuals to find beds to lie down on.
The Traditional Council requested support from Tullow Ghana for the hospital.
Chief Awulae Attibrukusu III noted that the whole hospital complex required refurbishment and an increase in facility space.
He observed that after providing healthcare services for 100 years to patients in Nzema-East and neighboring regions, along with individuals from La Cote D'Ivoire, the hospital’s facilities had become inadequate and required significant upgrades.
The Paramount Chief of Lower Axim affirmed to the hospital's management that the Traditional Council will continue to provide support.
Dr. Kwaku Adu-Gyamfi, the Medical Superintendent at Axim Government Hospital, accepted the mattresses on behalf of the institution and expressed his gratitude to the Lower Axim Traditional Council for their ongoing support to the healthcare center.
He mentioned that the hospital was bustling with preparations for its upcoming centennial celebration and planned to enhance the surroundings through painting and renovation efforts.
He mentioned that there was some difficulty with the Outpatient Department (OPD), as patients were shifting between different locations before they could receive medical attention.
The hospital has opted to establish a one-stop Outpatient Department aimed at addressing the issues related to patient flow and management.
He expressed his gratitude to Chief Awulae Attibrukusu III for consistently addressing the hospital’s requirements and urged the Traditional Council to keep supporting the medical facility.
Dr. Adu-Gyamfi mentioned that certain steel beds deteriorated because of the salty air from the sea breezes. With assistance from the Traditional Council, these beds were then substituted with new ones.
He mentioned that nearly every section of the hospital was experiencing leaks, noting that the facility hadn't undergone significant refurbishment since it opened.
The Medical Superintendent advocated for an enlargement of current infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of patients.
