CITN Chief Elected as WAUTI President: An International Leadership Shift
Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, who serves as the President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, has now been appointed as the new President of the West African Union of Tax Institutes.
The election of Agbeluyi was declared during WAUTI’s 11th Annual General Meeting, which took place recently in Accra, Ghana.
Through this advancement, Agbeluyi will head the regional taxation organization for a two-year term, guaranteeing that Nigeria takes a prominent position in enhancing tax management and adherence throughout West Africa.
WAUTI is an organization comprising national tax institutions from the Economic Community of West African States. It aims to promote professional standards in taxation, enhance adherence to tax laws, and refine tax management processes across its member countries.
WAUTI stated its commitment to standardizing taxation procedures across West Africa with the aim of promoting equity, openness, and better adherence to tax obligations. This initiative is designed to foster economic advancement within the area.
The organization also noted that Agbeluyi will bring extensive expertise to his new position, considering his prior service as WAUTI’s Honorary Treasurer and 2nd Vice President.
"As the present 16th president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, which stands among the leading professional tax bodies in the nation, Agbeluyi possesses the skill and know-how necessary to thrive in this role," WAUTI observed.
Agbeluyi has an impressive professional history, having been affiliated with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Jos, along with the Institute of Directors in Nigeria.
He is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Nigeria.
During his acceptance speech, Agbeluyi conveyed his thanks to the WAUTI member organizations for placing their confidence in Nigeria to lead the organization.
He committed to working closely alongside other executives and stakeholders to foster professionalism, improve tax systems, and bolster cooperation between member countries.
"We will progress towards WAUTI’s goals by improving tax regulations across West Africa to promote economic stability and sustainable development," Agbeluyi declared.
During the AGM, additional executives for the years 2025 through 2027 were also chosen. It's worth highlighting that Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, who currently serves as the Vice President of CITN, was once again appointed as the Honorary Treasurer of WAUTI. This reinforces Nigeria’s prominent role within the West African taxation sector.
