Hanoi Targets All-Electric Buses by 2030: A Green Transit Revolution

The Hanoi People's Committee has released a directive detailing the city’s plan for converting its public bus system to use electric and environmentally friendly energy sources.

As per an announcement made on April 8, Hanoi plans to transition all of its public buses to electric or eco-friendly power sources by the year 2030. By April 15, 2025, a comprehensive yearly plan needs to be presented to the local administration detailing this initiative.

The city has requested an immediate reassessment and revision of the standards used to evaluate the quality of public bus services, aiming to have the recommendations completed by the end of this month.

The construction authority will oversee the distribution of land and planning for electric vehicle charging stations, as well as develop subsidized interest rate policies for green buses by April.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce will guarantee a consistent energy supply, while the Finance Bureau will simplify lending processes to assist enterprises in obtaining financial support.
