My Infrastructure Vision Will Make History – Diri

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has announced that his administration is close to making significant historical progress with substantial advancements in infrastructure throughout the state.

During the 159th session of the State Executive Council meeting held in Yenagoa on Wednesday, the governor voiced his belief that his administration’s legacy will be characterized by significant initiatives encompassing areas such as infrastructure development, energy provision, educational advancement, and sporting achievements.

As he celebrated Team Bayelsa’s victory as overall champions at the first-ever Niger Delta Sports Festival, Diri mentioned that the state will shortly experience significant advancements across various sectors.

"We have performed exceptionally well. Most of the initiatives we took over have been successfully concluded. Additionally, we launched several new ventures. Currently, we can confidently say that the Nembe-Brass Road within the Eastern Senatorial District is one of our achievements. This road was initiated by us and subsequently adopted by the federal government; they then proceeded to award Phase Two while we focus on completing Phase One," he stated.

He also emphasized the continuous advancement of crucial senate highway initiatives like the Oporoma–Ukubie–Koluama project, which includes a more than 600-meter-long bridge at Angiama set to be finished this year.

"The Ekeremor-Agge road, which we took over and asphalted up to Ekeremor, is now ready for the final contract awards. Additionally, we are undertaking various significant road development projects throughout the state," Diri stated.

Regarding the state’s developing energy plan, the governor highlighted endeavors to maintain a steady power supply via autonomous production projects in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency.

"Power is present as we secure turbines for independent energy production in Bayelsa State. We recently attended an alliance meeting in Abuja at the Rural Electrification Agency. This indicates that we are making significant progress," he stated.

In the realm of education, Diri commended the recently held opening ceremony for six secondary schools in Yenagoa and outlined a fresh approach focusing on technical education.

“We have recently opened six new secondary schools in Yenagoa as part of our initiative. To promote practical learning, we initiated a change in approach by establishing science and technical institutions in each local government area.”

"I think this administration is at a pivotal moment to make history, especially with the fresh initiatives and ventures we've launched," he asserted.

He encouraged his cabinet members to stay concentrated and steer clear of diversions, particularly those coming from individuals he characterized as not prioritizing the state’s welfare.

"We are progressing quite well. Let’s stay focused and avoid being sidetracked by individuals who do not have our state’s best interests at heart," he stated.

Governor Diri expressed his gratitude to the people of Bayelsa for warmly welcoming Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, on her recent trip to the state, noting that this exemplifies the region’s customary cordiality.

In honor of Team Bayelsa's outstanding achievement at the sporting event hosted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the governor praised their efforts, attributing their success to unwavering resolve and efficient leadership.

"Collaboration, individual excellence, effective leadership, and persistence have proven successful. I am confident that this marks a pivotal moment for Bayelsa," he stated.

Bayelsa secured the top spot with 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze medals, followed closely by Delta State, which came in second place.

He stated that this win bolstered the state’s dedication to advancing sports and proved that building a FIFA-standard arena was the right choice.
