Talisman's Ryan Ogam Out for Season After Knee Surgery: Tusser Suffers Major Setback

During an earlier KPL match, Ryan Ogam scored a goal and celebrated with a fellow player.

Tusker FC will be without striker Ryan Ogam for the remainder of the season as he undergoes knee surgery, resulting from an injury sustained in February 2025.

This represents a significant setback for the Brewers as they aim to secure the FKF Premier League championship for the first time since the 2020-2021 campaign, following the annulment of the 2021-2022 title because of FIFA’s suspension of the FKF.

Ogam last took part in their 1-1 tie with Shabana FC at Machakos Stadium on February 26, 2025, as part of the FKF Premier League match. They also withdrew from the Harambee Stars training camp prior to their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon the previous month.

The knee cartilage repair operation performed at a Nairobi clinic on Wednesday implies that Ogum will be sidelined during the crucial part of the season as well as the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled from August 2 to 30, 2025. The Tusker FC team leader, Charles Okere, must rely on his attacking lineup consisting of Deugratias Ojok, Thomas Omole, Michael Oduor, Lawrence Luvanda, Jacob Onyango, Eric Balecha, John Njuguna, John Banyamukama, Boban Zirintusa, and James Kibanda to secure the championship for Ruaraka.

The ex-captain of Rainbow FC has netted 15 goals, which constitutes nearly half of the total 35 goals scored by the Brewers in the KPL Premier League during the 25 games played in the 2024/2025 season.

Currently, the brewers trail Police FC by two points in the league standings and lead Gor Mahia, the defending champions, by four points. Both teams are vying for the top spot.

Although Okere is counting on his forward line to score goals, he must also make sure that their defense, spearheaded by Captain Charles Momanyi—who was awarded the Tusker FC March Player of the Month—continues to maintain clean sheets.

So far, the brewers have allowed 24 goals and their goal difference stands at +1 when compared to Police and Gor Mahia, which boasts a goal difference of +18.

The KPL’s leading scorer for two decades recorded an impressive tally of 15 goals and 3 assists across 15 matches, which drew interest from clubs in North Africa and Europe during the January transfer window. However, these potential transfers did not come to fruition.

Ogam, who found the back of the net during his first appearance for the national team at the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar in January 2025, is expected to begin rehabilitation after about three months prior to resuming full training.
