UK Cities Miss Out: Discover the World's Most Affordable Expat Destinations

A recent survey has identified the least costly and priciest locations for expats, revealing that a popular vacation spot tops the list as the most budget-friendly city.

The findings originate from a poll conducted by the expat network. InterNations , which requested individuals residing outside their home countries to assess their quality of life considering various financial aspects.

Expatriates were questioned regarding the overall cost of living in their new home, their satisfaction with their financial situation and whether their disposable income was enough to 'lead a comfortable life'.

The most budget-friendly locations for expatriates

Valencia

Valencia , on Spain The sun-soaked Costa Blanca coast is officially the most budget-friendly destination for expats looking to live there.

More than seven out of ten (77 percent) foreigners residing in this location express contentment regarding their monetary circumstances, significantly surpassing the worldwide average of 54 percent.

Moreover, over sixty percent (61%) believe their expendable income sufficiently allows them to live comfortably, which is considerably above the worldwide average of 41%.

Panama City

The capital of Panama, Panama City, is second on the list. More than three quarters (76 per cent) of expats living there are are satisfied with their financial situation.

In Panama, disposable income often goes a long way, as over 90 percent of expatriates (91%) report having sufficient funds to live comfortably.

Panama City is likewise a favored spot for retirement, as indicated by 10 percent of expatriates who mentioned relocating there to relish their later life stages.

Malaga

Spain completes the top three, with the coastal city of Malaga being one of the most affordable places for expats to live.

Over seventy percent (72%) of expatriates express satisfaction with the city's cost of living.

Moreover, 38 percent express complete satisfaction regarding their financial status.

The most expensive locations for expatriates

Vancouver

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Vancouver is ranked as the least affordable city for expats to reside in.

Almost ninety percent (88%) of expatriates believe that Vancouver is overly pricey, and about sixty-five percent mention that their discretionary income is insufficient for a comfortable lifestyle.

Slightly less than half (48 percent) of expatriates believe that the cost of living in the Canadian city is 'very bad.'

A Turkish expatriate shares with InterNations, "Living expenses are high, particularly for accommodation. It requires additional funds to participate in social activities."

Toronto

Another Canadian metropolis ranks as the second most expensive city for expatriates to reside in. Over half (53 percent) of expats residing in Toronto report dissatisfaction with their financial circumstances.

Approximately 80 percent of foreign residents believe that the city has high living costs.

A Spanish expatriate shared with the survey, "The cost of living here is extremely high. Dining out or going for drinks seems like a special treat. In general, maintaining my previous social life from Germany or Spain is unaffordable."

Over half (56 percent) of the respondents believe that their available income is insufficient for a comfortable lifestyle.

London

London is considered the third priciest city for expatriates, with seven out of every ten individuals (70 percent) deeming the cost of living in the BigSmoke to be excessively high.

Close to two in five (39 per cent) are unhappy with their personal financial situation in London.

Nearly half (46 percent) believe their available money is insufficient for a comfortable lifestyle.

Oslo, Munich, Singapore, Auckland, New York, and Paris also strain the finances of foreign inhabitants.

Conversely, three Spanish cities appear among the top ten most affordable locations, with Alicante ranking alongside Valencia and Málaga at the pinnacle of the list.

Mexico City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Ras Al Khaimah, Warsaw, and Vienna are also suitable options for expatriates seeking an affordable cost of living.
