Sikkim's SP Mangan Announces New Vehicular Guidelines for Tourists Post Rainfall From April 30
Mangan ( Sikkim [India], April 29 (ANI): After continuous rainfall and common occurrences of mudflows in Northern regions Sikkim , the Office of the Superintendent of Police in Mangan District, has announced revised timing regulations as follows: vehicular movement through Sankalang .
According to the directive that will come into effect on April 30, the upward movement of tourist vehicles will be as follows: Gangtok to Mangan or Chungthang via Sankalang or Phidang Bailey Bridge should cross the Sankalang area by 2:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the downward vehicular movement from Chungthang to Gangtok would need to traverse the Sankalang Bailey Bridge should be completed by 3:30 pm.
The Office of the Superintendent of Police stated in a press release, "Any tourist vehicles traveling from Gangtok To Mangan, through either the Sankalang or Phidang Bailey Bridge , shall cross the Sankalang The area must be vacated by 1400 hours (2:00 PM). Tourist vehicles heading toward Chungthang using this route will not be allowed to operate. Sankalang area after 1400 hours."
"All tour buses traveling from Chungthang to Gangtok shall cross the Sankalang The Bailey Bridge must be cleared by 1530 hours (3:30 PM). No tourist vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge after this time. Sankalang The Bailey Bridge should be utilized exclusively by lightweight vehicles. Only those vehicles whose total weight (cargo included) does not exceed 12 tons will be allowed to traverse the bridge.
Heavy vehicles are strictly prohibited from using the bridge until further notice," the press release further said.
The order will come into effect on April 30, with no vehicular movement allowed once the specified time has passed.
Furthermore, only lightweight vehicles carrying up to 12 tons (inclusive of cargo) will be allowed to traverse the Sankhalang Bridge, whereas heavy vehicles are strictly forbidden.
"The implementation of these measures aims to guarantee the security of travelers and to avoid any unexpected events due to the continuing unfavorable weather," stated the directive.
"It stated that any breaches of this directive will result in stringent legal actions as per the applicable laws." (ANI)
