Islamic Clerics in the South Set for Salary Boost

The cabinet has sanctioned an annual budget of 721 million baht aimed at boosting the wages of religious instructors in Islamic educational institutions located in the southernmost regions of Thailand, which is intended as a component of efforts towards fostering peace.

The resources will be distributed to religious educational institutions located within the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and Satun. Additionally, these allocations will extend to the districts of Chana, Thepa, Saba Yoi, and Na Thawi in Songkhla province, as stated by Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak during his statement on Tuesday.

Teachers at Islamic kindergartens who instruct on community morals will see an increase of 3,000 to 3,500 baht per month in their salaries. Meanwhile, those leading religious lessons in boarding schools can expect hikes ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 baht monthly.

The monthly wage for an instructor at a governmental Islamic school may vary between 30,000 to 35,000 baht per month, contingent upon their level of expertise and credentials.

Institutional teachers at private schools providing both the national curriculum along with Islamic studies can expect an increase of 2,000 to 3,500 baht per month. Meanwhile, educators working for non-systemic Islamic private institutions stand to gain salary increments between 1,000 and 3,000 baht each month.

Mr Anukul stated that the budget allocation will commence with the upcoming fiscal year beginning in October.
